WHO DO I THINK I AM?
My name is Will McGavin and I’m a designer based out of Denver, Colorado. I enjoy trying on a lot of different hats as a designer and am always up for trying new things. I’ve found that the more I know about various styles and approaches, the more I can think about building out systems that are able to translate to a variety of different platforms and audiences. Sure, being able to connect to audiences and viewers is important to every designer, but I enjoy ditching some formalities when it comes to that connection. In being more personal with my audiences, I can approach design more genuinely while still being engaging to a wide variety of viewers and stand out among a sea of creatives.
In order to achieve this, I’ve found myself embracing a more chaotic side of visual language. However, this embrace means nothing if I can’t bring order to it, so the chaos must come in the form of measured disruption. My creative practice has roots in impressionist painting which is a genre that needs some order to be properly loose. That is the first place I learned to embrace my creative restrictions in order to properly engage with them and overcome them. I aim to bring that into my design process with almost every project.
